Harris Teeter will add 41 jobs at its Indian Trail distribution center as it expands the facility to serve more of its supermarkets in the Southeast.
The $5.5 million expansion will add 50,000 square feet distribution center, along with a $1.9 million bump in the annual payroll at the center. The center now measures 580,000 square feet and has 365 employees.
N.C. Rep. Dean Arp (R-Union) says the addition and jobs are welcome. “This new facility will provide an important economic boost to Union County and the surrounding area,” Arp says.
Matthews-based Harris Teeter receives a $40,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund as a part of the incentives to expand the facility. Other incentives weren’t disclosed.
Work begins on the expansion in October, with Harris Teeter planning to occupy the addition in July 2015.
The project will boost the number of stores served by the center to 125 from the current 104.
Harris Teeter, with 230 stores in the Southeast and the District of Columbia, is a subsidiary of The Kroger Co. (NYSE:KR).
