WHY UNION COUNTY?

The Better Question - Why NOT Union County?

As one of the fastest growing counties in the United States, Union County is also one of the most diverse locations.  Whether it is our industrial makeup to our strength in agriculture, our community is a leader in North Carolina.  Monroe, the county seat, is the home to the largest geographic cluster of aerospace companies in the State.  Union County has the largest equine population in our State and home to the Queen’s Cup Steeplechase.  Supporting the local food system, Union County is in the Top 10 of almost every agricultural commodity and consistently ranks near the top in agricultural receipts for the State annually.

Union County’s workforce is continually growing, as we are a choice community for people relocating from around the US to the Southeast.  In 2022, Union County’s labor force grew over 9,000 people.  The job opportunities are very abundant and the unemployment rate averages around 3% each year.  Union is also home to a great quality of life, having a sustainable tax base that produces reliable revenue to support a growing county.  The Village of Marvin and the Town of Weddington are the 2 most wealthiest municipalities in the State, providing an exceptional location for executive housing.

Finally, the community has a long history of investing to support its industrial sector.  From industrial park development to a speculative shell building program, the City of Monroe and Union County have made economic development a primary focus.  They have recently completed new facilities at South Piedmont Community College and will be building an Aseptic Training Facility and a new Western Campus soon to support the training needs of the local manufacturing community.
